National Bookstart Day 2009 was celebrated across the UK on Friday 9 October with over 5,000 'My Favourite Rhyme' themed events taking place in children’s centres, nurseries, libraries and bookshops. A million copies of the free booklet Bookstart’s Favourite Rhymes have been given out on high streets and shopping centres to spread the message about Bookstart.
The national press event at the V&A Museum of Childhood in London was a great success with 55 children and their parents and carers attending from Mowlem Children’s Centre in Tower Hamlets and VIP guest Danielle Lineker, left, joining in the fun, with entertainment provided by the Bookstart Bear, storytellers, illustrators and a lively rhymetime session.
