Lily and Bear by Lisa Stubbs
Lily loves to draw and one day, she draws Bear. Lily loves Bear and Bear loves Lily and they are best friends immediately. Lily takes Bear by the hand and they have great fun doing some of Lily’s favourite things: having tea parties, sailing carpet seas and racing around on tricycles. But being friends means taking turns, and after a while, Bear wants to do Bear things. So he takes Lily by the hand and they catch slippery fish, roll round the mountainside and scratch their backs against a knotty pine. Then Bear plays the banjo brilliantly until it’s time to rest.
Lisa’s work is inspired by family life. Lily and Bear began when her daughter Skyla drew a picture of lots of little coloured hearts and said, ‘This is the colour of my love for you, Mummy.’ Lisa created a screen print based on this drawing, which you can see on the endpapers to Lily and Bear. Drawings by her other children, Lily and Sonny, also feature in the book. Lisa wanted to explore her children’s pictures and their childlike way of looking at the world, seeing everything as fresh and new and brilliant.

Twit-to-Who by Smriti Prasadam-Halls and Sebastien Braun
This wonderful picture book has a fun, rhythmic text with glorious images by Sebastien Braun.
To the children playing games,
Twit to woo.
Smriti was first an editor in children’s books before turning her hand to writing. Her favourite place to write is actually in bed. This is possibly because she has slept in many weird and wonderful places: a tent in the rainforests of Borneo; a sleeper train jolting across India; a choppy ferry heading for Shetland; a lighthouse on the Mediterranean, a junk in the Hong Kong harbour and a Maharaja’s palace in the middle of a lake, to name but a few! She now lives in London with her family.
Sebastien studied fine arts in Strasbourg, France. His career was launched at Boxer Books, with the best-selling I Love My Mummy and I Love My Daddy. He is now a firm favourite with bookshops and families. Sebastien lives in Gloucestershire with his wife, two sons, two guinea pigs and a golden retriever.
