Bookstart in Wales

Bookstart in Wales has been changing the lives of children for the better for over ten years.

Reading with your child is a key skill that helps with their speech and language development. So whether it's a bedtime story or sharing funny poems with each other during long car journeys, I would encourage you to take five minutes every day to enjoy some time together because your children will certainly reap the rewards.

Keith Towler, Children's Commissioner for Wales

Dechrau Da/Bookstart gifts free bilingual book packs to every child in Wales at nine-months and two-years-old to inspire a love of reading that will give them a flying start in life.

The generous sponsorship of children’s publishers and Red House Books ensures that the programme is good value for money. The Bookstart programme is only made possible with the time and resources invested by our partners in libraries and in health visitor teams across Wales.
