Partners
Partnership working is central to realising our vision of empowering people through reading and writing. Booktrust works with a number of organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors who help us to respond to need in a cost-effective and impactful way, ensuring that we continue to empower individuals and communities in benefitting from and enjoying books, reading and writing.
We work with several Government Departments including the Department for Education, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department of Health. Our work helps to inform Government policy and shapes future agendas in the fields of literacy, family learning and health and wellbeing.
Booktrust also work closely with Arts Council England in supporting the delivery of 'Great Art for Everyone'. From next year we will be one of ACE's National Portfolio Organisations delivering a programme of activities to promote literature and creativity for all.
We also work with a number of other high-profile organisations including public bodies, corporate partners, trusts and other charities to deliver a broad spectrum of exciting and innovative projects.

Arts Council England
Booktrust is the hub for national literature development and currently receives regular funding from Arts Council England to support our programme of prizes, promotions and campaigns.

Booktrust works with the Booksellers Association across its programmes and campaigns.

Department for Education (DfE)
Booktrust works with the Department for Education to deliver free books programmes, enabling us to reach every child in England as well as children in Northern Ireland and Wales. Our government funding helps us to generate support from publisher partners in a unique public/private partnership. Our programmes range from universal offers for every child, to programmes targeted at children from more disadvantaged backgrounds or those with more specialised needs.

Department of Education Northern Ireland (DENI)
The Department of Education is responsible for the central administration of all aspects of education and related services in Northern Ireland. Funding for Bookstart and Booktime has been provided over the last three years through grants from the Literacy and Numeracy Stering Group.

Department of Education and Skills (DfES)
Booktrust Cymru, our Welsh office, works with the Department of Education and Skills in the Welsh Government, to deliver a universal free books programme, Bookstart / Dechrau Da, whereby all children in Wales are eligible for Bookstart Packs at 9 months and 18 months. A targeted programme for looked after children in Key Stage 2, Letterbox Club / Blwch Llythyrau, and book packs for visually and hearing impaired babies are also funded by the Welsh Government. This funding helps us to generate support from Welsh language publishers in a unique public/private partnership. The programmes in Wales are fully bilingual.

Booktrust is a member and Booktrust's CEO Viv Bird is currently Chair of EU READ, a Europe-wide task force for reading and reading promotion for children.

Fostering Network
The Fostering Network
Booktrust links with The Fostering Network UK to deliver Letterbox Club which focuses on improving the educational outlook for looked-after children aged 7-13 by providing them with a parcel of books, maths activities and educational materials once every month for six months. In September 2011, Letterbox Club won the prestigious Third Sector Excellence Charity Partnership Award for its work with Fostering Network Northern Ireland , as part of their Fostering Achievement programme.

Booktrust is a founder member of Free Word, a centre for literature, literacy and free expression. Its mission is innovation and collaboration, pushing boundaries to promote, protect and democratise the power of the written and spoken word for creative and free expression.

Booktrust works with the Publishers Association across its programmes and campaigns.

Local Authorities
Booktrust works in partnership with every local authority in England to deliver our free books programmes. Local Authorities support the delivery of our book packs through libraries, health visitors, children's centres and other local partners which enable us to reach socially excluded families.

Publishers
Booktrust works in partnership with a number of well known publishers. Their support for our bookgifting programmes enables us to deliver a broad range of high quality books and resources directly into the hands of those who benefit the most. They also support our many literary promotions including the Children's Laureate, prizes and campaigns.

Primary and secondary schools
Booktrust works with every school in England to deliver our school-age free books programmes (Booktime and Booked Up). Teachers value our professional packs of books, and our downloadable teaching resources that encourage wider reading for pleasure, and making writing enjoyable and relevant for young people.

Booktrust partners the BBC's Blue Peter for the enormously popular and influential BBC Blue Peter Book Awards, which have been recognising and celebrating the best authors, the most creative illustrators and the greatest reads for children since 2000.

BBC Radio 4
The BBC National Short Story Award, delivered in partnership with BBC Radio 4, is one of the most prestigious awards for a single short story in the world. The shortlisted stories are recorded for on-air broadcast by well-known actors and listened to by millions of people.

Dahl & Dahl
We work with Dahl & Dahl on the unique Roald Dahl Funny Prize - launched by Michael Rosen and Booktrust in 2008 to honour those books that make young people, and all of us, roar with laughter.

EFG Private Bank
The Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Award honours the finest writers of short stories in the UK and Ireland and is the world's most valuable prize for a single short story. Booktrust has managed the award since its creation in 2010.

The Independent
Booktrust works closely with ACE and The Independent, with the support of Champagne Tattinger, to deliver the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize, which every year celebrates the best contemporary work of fiction in translation published in the UK.

The John S Cohen Foundation
Booktrust partner the John S Cohen Foundation and ACE to deliver the biennial £40,000 David Cohen Prize for Literature, which honours a lifetime's achievement in literature.

Booktrust is a longstanding partner of Orange, administering the UK's most prestigious annual book award for fiction by international female writers, the Orange Prize for Fiction.

Pearson
Booktrust jointly runs Booktime, which gives free books to reception-aged children, with Pearson, the world’s leading learning company. Now in its sixth year, we have worked with Pearson to give over six million Penguin and Pearson UK books to over 3.5 million children, encouraging families to enjoy sharing books and reading together at home.

Waterstones are principal sponsors of the Children's Laureate, a role awarded every two years to an eminent writer or illustrator of children's books to celebrate outstanding achievement in their field and highlight the importance of exceptional children's authors in creating the readers of tomorrow. The success of Bookstart has inspired many similar schemes around the globe, from Japan to Canada, from New Zealand to Korea. Twenty five schemes operate across five continents: Europe, Asia, North America, Central and South America and Oceania. -
Quick Reads
Booktrust works with Quick Reads to help support less confident readers by providing access to exciting books to enjoy. Quick Reads produce books for people who have lost the reading habit or who struggle to read long and complicated books and for avid readers simply wanting a short, fast read.

Booktrust is a charity partner of World Book Night, a celebration designed to spread a love of reading and books. It sees tens of thousands of people gift books within their communities to spread the joy and love of reading. In 2012 World Book Night will be celebrated in the UK, Ireland and USA.
