National Bookstart Day 2006 took place on Friday 6 October with over 1,000 events being held up and down the country.

Activities ranged from teddy bears picnics and fancy dress parties to face-painting, colouring competitions and special Bookstart Rhymetimes. Highlights included a teddy bears picnic and storytime at the famous Hamley's toy shop in London and a visit from Children's Minister Beverley Hughes to a Rhymetime event at Trafford's Woodsend library (see right).

We would like to thank everyone who organised and hosted events, as well as those who took part and enjoyed the day.

Congratulations to everyone for making this year's National Bookstart Day our biggest and most successful yet.
