ROOAAAAR!
Sorry if I scared you, but I’ve been practising all week to perfect my best dinosaur impression just for you. I know I’ve told you before that my favourite animals to read about are elephants, but I’ve just discovered how fun dinosaurs are! They’re big and they’re loud, and sometimes they’re scary, but they’re always great to read about.
My favourite dinosaur book is The Very Dizzy Dinosaur by Jack Tickle. It’s full of dinosaurs in all sorts of shapes and colours, and some even pop out from the page at you! I also enjoy reading Ten Terrible Dinosaurs by Paul Stickland (it helps me when I get all muddled up with my numbers) and Dinosaur Roar! by Henrietta Stickland, which was what inspired my dinosaur impression!
One day, I hope I can go and see the real life dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum.
What dinosaur would you like to be? I still can’t decide… I think I’m going to have to go and read my books again… I wonder if there was a blue one…
(Roar…)
PS Dinosaur fans will also just love special activity sheets for Harry and the Dinosaurs from…

The Birthday Party

Have you ever been to a birthday party? I was lucky enough to go to my first one this weekend…
It all started with an invitation arriving through the post. It was in a special colourful envelope, and it said: ‘Dear Bookstart Bear, You are specially invited to Honey Bear's 3rd birthday party, on Saturday at 2pm. Hope to see you there.’
Well I hoped to be there too! My very first party! I didn’t know what exactly happened at parties but I knew that they were supposed to be very fun, so I decided to do what I always do when I’m not sure about something – to look it up in a book.
At the library I found lots of books about birthday parties, but I think my favourite one was Party Animals by Tony Mitton. It was really colourful and all the rhyming was so fun that I almost felt that I was at the party already! I also enjoyed I am Invited to a Party by Mo Willems and Kipper’s Birthday by Mick Inkpen.
I read all about party games and birthday cake and even party bags, so by the time that Saturday…

Trains

This weekend I had a very special treat– Sunday dinner at my Granny’s house! But I have to admit that as much as I love gobbling up all the yummy food she cooks for me, one of my favourite things about going to Granny’s house is the journey there.
The journey is very exciting you see, because instead of just walking as I usually do when I’m going somewhere close like the park or the library, I get to take the train! It’s all very exciting with all the hustle and bustle in the station, and all the noises the train makes. Beep Beep! Choo Choo! Chug Chug!
But that’s not all the fun on the train – it’s also one of my favourite places to get stuck into a good book too! If you look around you on a train, you’ll often see that lots of other people are reading too!
And what better thing to read about on a train than other exciting train journeys! One of my favourite train books is The Runaway Train Pop Up Book by Ben Blathwayt. I love looking behind all the flaps to see what is hiding there! I’m also a big…

Snow days!

Here I was thinking last month was cold – and now look! Snow everywhere! My cold is all better now and I’ve been having a brilliant time making snow angels and throwing snowballs in the park. And after a day of frolicsome snowy adventures, there’s nothing better than coming back home to a big plate of peanut butter sandwiches, a huge glass of milk and a few well-chosen books to settle in with.
But I think my favourite, most perfect, very best thing to do in winter time is to join in with the Rhymetimes session at my library. Singing songs and rhymes and doing the actions gets me all warmed up. I love mixing with all the children and their parents there too, and to top it all off, once the session is finished I get to look around the library and choose some new books to take home with me. At the moment I’m on the hunt for books about snow.
So far I’ve found We Love the Snow by Richard Edwards, which is about Littlemouse who wants to discover the snow for himself. There’s also Snow Bears by Martin Waddell, which of course… -
Winter chills

BRRRR! I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to get very chilly. And when I get chilly, I get sneezy. And when I get sneezy, I get grumpy. And when I get grumpy, I want to hide away with lots of comfort food and a pile of good books. Today I’m tucked up warm under my duvet with a big bowl of banana porridge. I’ve got the perfect staying-home-with-a-cold setup in my room. There’s a box of tissues right next to the bed, some cough medicine for my tickly throat and some salmon-flavoured ice-cream in the fridge for later. Because when you’re ill, you get ice-cream – that’s the rules.
Which stories do you like to have read to you when you’re not feeling well? At the moment one of my favourites is Cowboy Baby by Sue Heap. It’s about Cowboy Baby’s adventures looking for his toys in the desert, because he won’t go to bed without them. There’s lots of big colourful pictures to look at too. It’s good to read right before bed, and right after your ice-cream – then you can drift off into a nice warm sleep and dream about deserts and desserts…
