Bookstart Rhymetimes

Bookstart Rhymetimes are activities designed to encourage parents and carers to share rhymes and songs with babies from birth onwards. They are organised locally and take place in children’s nurseries and libraries.

Sessions incorporate a mix of songs, rhymes, rhythm and movement, and provide the opportunity to share games, novelty books and toys.

Baby Rhymetimes are hugely successful all over the country. They demonstrate beyond doubt that libraries do have something to offer babies.

Promoting Rhymetime

If you hold Rhymetime sessions it's important that we promote the sessions as widely as possible. We now have a dedicated area within the Bookstart parents section of the website which enables users to search for events in their area.

Contact jon@booktrust.org.uk to add your events to the calendar.

Download or order a Rhymetime songsheet for your event?

The Bookstart Rhymetime song sheets feature a selection of favourite nursery rhymes and songs and supplement the Rhymetime booklet and CD. You can use them at your local event or hand them out to parents to take home.

Bookstart Rhymetimes Development Project

Bookstart in Scotland

The Scottish Arts Council’s Youth Music initiative (YMI) and Bookstart Scotland are working in partnership with Youth Music to develop the ‘Bookstart Rhymetimes’ project with the Bookstart in Scotland programme.

The project has been created to ensure the highest quality Bookstart Rhymetimes sessions are provided to parents and babies and that music and books are placed at the heart of their lives.
